The Emumägi hill

Emumägi  is the highest hill in the Pandivere Upland and in the entire North Estonia. From the watching tower established at the top of the hill several churches can be seen and in recent years an increasing number of mobile masts.

Unlike many other watching towers in Estonia the traditional agricultural landscape dominates the scene here. The more distant scene includes extensive mire areas of Endla and the forests of Alutaguse region. From its foot Emumägi rises to 80metres.

Essentially, the hill consists of several landforms linked together, i.e. there is a long esker lying on the drumlin-like hillock. Emumägi together with the Tammiku Hill located north of the former forms a 12 km long mound range with many steep-sloped valleys and depressions. The slightly slanting western slope of the mound is predominantly covered with arable land.

The legend of Emumägi

I am going write about legend of Emumägi. It is in the Pandivere uplands and indeed the highest point in northern Estonia. I think it is an interesting place because there are many views.

According to Kalevipoeg's legend  there was a big plain instead of Emumägi. Once Kalevipoeg came from the war, tied up his horse in the plain and went to sleep. Horseflies and mosquitos attacked the  horse and  the horse scratched so much mud up that  the current Emumägi emerged.
